Brenda J. Hunt, Chief Academic Officer/Director of MTSS and Title 1

I am excited to start my fifth year at Royal Live Oaks Academy, as I continue serving as the Chief Academic Officer/Director of MTSS and Title 1. For those of you who don’t know about my background, I would like to share some highlights.

I am a native of Vermont and graduated from Lyndon State College, earning a Bachelors of Science in Elementary and Special Education. Upon relocating to South Carolina, I received my Master’s degree and Educational Leadership certificate from Georgia Southern University.  My career experiences span from a Residential Treatment Team Teacher for Autistic students at Spaulding Youth Center in Tilton, New Hampshire, to a Special Education Teacher in Beaufort County.  Additionally, I have served in leadership roles as a Special Education Coordinator and Executive Director of Special Education.

On a personal level, my husband Peter and I  are proud parents to a daughter, Zykeria a Bluffton High School graduate. I have a passion for children and strive to be an advocate for all students. My husband and I have served as foster parents to many children over the years by providing them with  a safe and nurturing home. When not serving the students at Royal Live Oaks Academy, I enjoy searching for treasures at thrift stores, cooking for friends, RVing and vacationing with family.

As Chief Academic Officer/Director of MTSS and Title 1, I am charged to work with teachers to ensure a  rigorous academic environment that builds a safe learning community in which our students can grow and show continuous progress.  I also support the social emotional needs of our students, teachers and families. RLOACS focus for the 2023-2024 school year will continue to be goal and results oriented with continued focus on improving student achievement, open communication, ongoing curriculum monitoring via curriculum mapping for increased student achievement and “moving the needle.”

I am honored to work with the incredibly talented and diverse staff  at RLOACS who bring not only their unique talents to the school community, but  also an unchallenged sense of dedication to the vision and mission of RLOACS. Our school is a safe place where all students are afforded an opportunity to experience success.

I am proud to be a Royal Knight,  actively serving our teachers, students and families at  a school where students become critical thinkers, problem solvers and lifelong learners. I look forward to working with you in making this become a reality for every student!
