"Many teachers develop innovative classroom projects but lack the funds to implement them. The Palmetto Electric Trust and Palmetto Electric Cooperative offer Bright Ideas, a grant program that provides funding for innovative classroom-based education projects that fall outside of normal school funding. Each year, teachers from southern Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton counties school submit proposals for innovative classroom projects. The grants are intended to fund projects outside normal school funding. Teachers in grades K–12 from schools in our three-county service area can apply." alright class good morning so let me tell you about this cool project that we are going to do so we are going to learn about force and mo but instead of using regular old Hot Wheels to to do this we are actually going to code a virtual space so that we can replicate a Hot Wheel going from the physical reality to Virtual Reality in this project you will learn about Force you will learn about motion you will learn about friction and Newton's Laws of Motion who's ready to do it awesome the name of my bright ideas project is called cold-blooded I don't play on word cuz you know it sounds like cold blooded would you refer someone who is malevolent this is called cold-blooded code and through the going to be completing a pbl unit that have the driving question or problem is how can we make sure that technology isn't it Craftsman and a benefit to mankind instead of a detriment for what students are going to do I'm going to purchase with the funds I receive a robot called Sparrow they say it has over 2000 uses if it be things like saying sister a can paint it can carry items for people but students have to coat it for through the one to take some lessons on coating on code.org and then they're going to come up with ways that we can you sterile to assist myself my assistant Miss Townsend and to us this dumb but without replacing them and then we're going to present our findings to some of the engine daring firms who are the providers of this technology for dumb to keep in mind there's make technology and enhancement to society so it's going to involve a lot of research is going to fall off a lot of writing a lot of reading I want the Vault alves-lico Ting which is the language for the students who are they speak another language they're going to have to add another name for my kids only speak one they'll now have a second and that's just in the synopsis of cold-blooded not her mind is the Educators version of Minecraft students will research the the community of Hartville and they are going to find out which natural disaster the community experience has a lot while they're doing that in doing that they are going to be Builders and Engineers Architects they're going to create evacuation plans they're going to design a building itself or a community is cells and they're going to have communication plan in case there's an emergency also they are going to have family evacuation plan so these children are actually going to be their own designers their own Engineers they're going to and created a community like a real Builder that Engineers do outside Community itself in doing this they're going to use their mathematical skills they're going to do algebra they're going to do measurement cuz nobody wants a community that is not measured correctly or not done too measurement so they're going to do all of that and learn as they go along my the project we're going to have students is called the Grand boxing it's where we will have about 14 microscopes that will each come with at least 50 specimens where we will get the Explorer investigate River get to collaborate we will get to record her finding create hypotheses and tries to prove or disprove them we will get to go out into the environment bring our samples in and see what impact the humans we as humans have on our environment we will be able to see what problems were pausing with a negative whether we have a positive impact and how we can fix the problem and take care of her advancement does that mean we are going Tubi creating we're going to create an action plan and we're going to share it with the school and tell them how they can in turn help us to help our environment does that make sense sound exciting we're looking forward to it hey good morning everyone first of all I would like to thank for methow and the bright ideas for having been chosen as one of the recipients for this bright idea to Grant because it will we help our students are 7th and 8th grade Detroit Live Oak Academy to our our multi language learners in math there's a lot of those who are having problems with the language specialist in when it comes to like this problem set on the board it's only word problems and they're having a problem understanding be the words are the problems when it comes to the language so this project is typo Matt Warrior 2 met Warrior show they were worried about Matt their struggles on that and I hope this project will help them understand the concepts better because it will give them a lot of practice exercises that will address those difficulties may have regarding the language problem or the language barrier and I hope they sold that project all right tell me about is a technology tool that got some exercises or there's a translation especially if it is English like the horses are doing is always in English there will be a translation in Spanish for there are some exercises that is in Spanish language we have a common focus with our Elementary on classrooms and rml Department this year to focus on writing in the content areas I do a lot of RPD for an all students here and for the teachers and I'm use a strategy that uses pictures to help our students write better sentences so with the grant money that I received will purchasing picture cards for elementary aged students what is building kits also like writing supplies in our supplies so I can make you know cool books and things like that for the soon so we use the strategy in the classroom and then we use these materials purchased by the grant to hopefully improve our students writing in the Canton area is and nonfiction writing this year Tailwaggers has been reading initiatives that we begin at Royal Live Oaks Academy 2016 we started as a club program and the students in middle school students wanted very much to do some service projects and they found out that they were dogs who were syrupy dogs who children read to improve the children's reading so we've been in existence in Palmetto electric has been very gracious and generous to support us each year for the past five years and what it is is it a reading canine reading program whose aim is to children to read to loved books and love reading and to remove the fear this many children who struggle with reading have sokolson is one of our young men who loves the dogs and reads to them don't you know who do you read two million moose right now we have two therapy dogs K9 reading buddies who come once a week to read with the children and the children are teaching the dogs to read so we we find it very successful and a very positive program for the children because they they do feel better about themselves and they are not unwilling they look forward to the reading program with the dogs and especially being with the dogs who John Deere late and they don't get as nervous and they try harder they gave packets of books to the children to about 150 of Arkay to three children and a puppet I'll just so what we're doing this year is the same thing and this is this is a kind of thing we were doing this year were adding out a a dictionary to the packet and we tried do some dog related books and we try to do puppets and we're probably going to use a lot of the poor Patrol puppets because the kids seem to like those Coulson hold it up and say hi hi Nicole Simpson the process of writing part of a book that we're going to be publishing on reading dogs at Royal Live Oaks so he's started out with Melody my name is Melly my name is Moose we are reading dogs at Royal live Academy and then he was going to talk about how much he likes to read with the dogs so it's kind of a fun experience for them so that's the goal is to make it fun and to get books into the hands of children who otherwise don't have books in their homes so we can how many Library which is we know historically and buy research without books in the home kids have difficulty more difficulty reading and they have difficulty with vocabulary acquisition and background college town it's a way of helping with all of that and getting families to work together with us but thank you thank you feel blessed to be able to do it good afternoon name is William Cameron I'm the music teacher here at Royal Live Oaks and I also produce a morning a new show which is what my grant is for my grant is to buy eight-track pads so I'm headphones and some apple based keyboards to add to IMAX that we already have to update them so I can start using them in my first and fifth black classes next semester which are already music production classes what is going to add video production class to that so they will be producing our morning Michelle everyday well our nice bright ideas recipient Amber Gallant is on medical leave so I would not be able to speak about her project in the same that she could however I do have the information about her project and a her project has to do with students learning how to read sheet music as a way to improve their reading scores she is a fourth fifth grade social what is teacher and she thinks that if they will learn to sight-read and go through that process of when you use music for reading I know I can speak to that very well as as a singer that you memorize words more easily when it's to a beach when it's to a tune and if someone struggling with reading which many of our fourth and fifth graders are you have the ability to use music as a way to assist you so that you can remember what those sounds are like as you break up the word what you doing many songs as the progression of the music flows so she believes that those students reading scores will will improve and their comprehension will improve because they can read more fluently because as you may know if someone struggles with reading fluency is a huge issue because they're having to reread words so often that they lose track of what's going on in one sentence plus with the whole paragraph but I think this is a great great idea and we look forward to her return and having our students use this particular method to learn to read better so this was $1,000 that she learned through the bright ideas Award with her application and as usual our school had the most Awards this year
