Description
POSITION PURPOSE: The Classroom Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom that fosters academic and personal growth. He/She will: 1) create and maintain a positive, stimulating environment for students to promote a culture of learning; 2) establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students; 3) prepare, administer, and evaluate tests and classroom assignments following curriculum guidelines; 4) guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic difficulties, or special academic interests; 5) conduct assigned general education classes according to the State of South Carolina Standards according to a class schedule; 6) demonstrate professional practices in teaching, managing student behavior, and model achievement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORKPLACE EXPECTATIONS:
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
• Provide developmentally and academically appropriate opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving, with flexibility for meeting individual student needs;
• Plan, create and implement a dynamic classroom environment conductive to learning and relevant to the physical, social, and emotional development of students;
• Select materials and equipment appropriate for the instructional program;
• Model appropriate activities and positive behavior management techniques through daily contact with students and classroom staff;
• Collaborate with other staff in developing plans and sharing best practices to provide comprehensive services to the students and families being served;
• Serve as an instructional leader, utilizing data to assist with the development and monitoring of educational goals and initiatives that promote improved academic achievement for all students;
• Assist in ensuring parent involvement and/or awareness in program planning through open communications, parent meetings, conferences, and parent newsletters;
• Advocate for parents in accessing resources and support services, as needed;
• Ensure compliance with required federal, state, Authorizer and school policies regarding documentation and record keeping responsibilities;
• Demonstrate knowledge of strategies and differentiated instruction in teaching all students;
• Provide adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher and places substitute plans in the designated classroom area;
• Provide lesson plans by weekly deadline and place a copy of lesson plans in the designated classroom area;
• Comply with conditions as stated in the Royal Live Oaks Academy Employee Handbook;
• Demonstrate professional practices in teaching;
• Demonstrate knowledge of strategies and differentiated instruction in teaching special education students;
• Perform assigned technology and other monitoring classroom duties;
• Implement student services in the current IEP, 504 Plan, and (Department) plan and maintain progress monitoring, as prescribed;
• Maintain accurate attendance records, accommodation/modification records, behavioral records and all other anecdotal records as required for each student with a current IEP;
• Act in a professional manner, demonstrating appropriate personal contact while in performance of school duties;
• Assume a role in meeting the school's student achievement goals, including academic gains of students assigned to the teacher;
• Maintain a positive attitude about, and comply with, school policy regarding observations by administrators or consultants;
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy
• Communicate effectively in English (both orally and written), using proper grammar and vocabulary. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication;
• Demonstrate positive communication and interpersonal skills as they relate to interaction with students, parents, other teachers, administrators, and other school personnel;
• Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech;
• Work effectively with, and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds;
• Demonstrate timeliness and attendance for assigned responsibilities;
• Dress in a neat, clean and professional manner for the assignment and work setting;
• Follow all school policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by the Chief Executive Officer or designee;
• Follow professional practices consistent with school policies in working with students, students' records, parents, and colleagues;
• Have regular and punctual attendance;
• Help enforce the rules and regulations outlined in the Student Handbook;
• Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly;
• Follow South Carolina mandated reporting laws and notify supervisor when there is evidence or suspicion of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or appearance of individuals under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids;
• Promote good school and community relationships, including appropriate public relations activities;
• Provide a safe and secure environment for all students and staff;
• Provide supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the school’s policies, procedures and applicable laws;
• Support the implementation of Royal Live Oaks Academy’s vision, mission and goals; Work effectively with and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds; and
• Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of the Academy, the Chief of Staff, and the area level principal.

Requirements
• A Bachelor’s Degree with a valid South Carolina Secondary School content certification and 2 years’ classroom experience is preferred. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills as well as organization, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills are required. A good knowledge of academic policies and procedures, especially those common in the US educational system, is required. Experience as, or demonstrated capacity to be, an effective, strategic leader is required. He/She must be proactive with exceptional problem-solving skills, be self-motivated and have a high level of initiative. He/She must be energetic and results oriented. He/She must be a collaborative team member who is flexible and patient (adaptable in a fast-changing environment).
• He/She should have a focus on student achievement; a knowledge and/or experience in the use of instructional technology; excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff and community.
