Description
This class will pick up instruction where we left off last year. This class will begin with a study of the early giants of jazz. Many of these artists are unknown by the general public. Musicians such as: Buddy Bolden, Kid Ory and Joe Oliver just to name a few. This class will cover jazz until it turns political, around the year 1954. The second project titled: New Technologies for a New Generation. In this project, we will discuss how technologies such as microphones, speakers, recording and radio broadcasting. This class will also learn the basics of guitar playing and tablature reading of basic, one-line melodies.

Essay Rubric:

TSW write 14-18 sentences

the sentences must be full, complete and correct. (no fragments or run-on)

Sentences must have a capital letter at the beginning and a period at the end.

Proper nouns must have a capitol letter

Subject and verbs must agree (singular/plural)

TSW have all the topics from the keynote: first artistic music, color blind, invented by slaves, musical freedom, all are welcome to join in, opposite of European classical music (Mozart, Beethoven, Opera)

TSW use the word “democratic” correctly to describe the music because “all voices are equal”

-5 points for every fragment or run on
-5 points for per sentence not there
